Toys made from nature’s own materials are often termed ecological toys. Often, however, the materials derived from nature have been soaked in additives and painted with unfriendly and even harmful chemicals.
Plasticizers for softening plastics  (phthalates) are considered especially harmful to children’s health because they mimic the effects of hormones in the human body.
Fire resistant chemicals and lead paint can lead to expulsion of the toys in question from the market. The Environment Agency of Iceland is the supervising body in this matter.
