The goal of Eco-labelling is to help consumers choose products with a minimum negative impact on the environment and health. The 3 categories are:

  1. Officially recognised ones certified by a third party
  2. Eco-labels that producers themselves put on their products
  3. Labels not concerning the environment at all and can even be misleading

The Nordic Swan is the official label of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Environment Agency of Iceland supervises the implementation of the Nordic Swan in Iceland.
