Help us save Iceland´s largest river and one of the country´s most beautiful waterfalls!

The main plan for the municipality Flóahreppur, 2006-2018 in former Villingaholtshreppur, has already been advertised. The main plan includes the construction of the Urriðafoss hydropower dam which will among other things destroy the beautiful Urriðafoss waterfall, and cause extensive other damage to the Thjorsa river´s catchment area. The river Thjorsa is the largest river in Iceland with a catchment area that includes the spectacular Thjorsardalur valley, where ruins of viking settlements have been found.
The protectors of the river Thjorsa, want to encourage everybody, everywhere in the world, to make an international effort in saving the Thjorsa river. Please send in your protests and comments to the municipality of Flóahreppur, right now. The deadline for handing in comments is on the 1.st of August 2008.

Please note, that all comments made have to be written and sent in traditional mail. E-mail is not acceptable. It is also necessary to sign the letter with full name and address, because all those that send in comments, are apt to receive answers from the municipality in the mail when decision has been taken.

It is very important to note that Iceland´s pristine nature is not the sole domain of Icelanders, but belongs to all the inhabitants of this planet. It is therefore essential that people from all parts of the world, show that they are concerned about the horrible things that are happening to the natural wonders in southern Iceland.
